Group 5: Alzheimer. U-house

The U-House consisted of two long corridors, one of which ended in the room of girls and the other through the kitchen and the toilet to get to the bedroom of the mother. Both riders were dark and led to light, a large window in the arch of the U. This multipurpose space - used to play, dine and meditating - had its walls and plaster ceiling painted white and covered with a carpet floor also white color. In light of this space was faded and offered soft textures, while an opening in the ceiling directed the daylight as a diagonal line drawn perfectly. Powerful lighting effects were reinforced by the immaculate whiteness of the interior, which seemed flat and without any dimensionality. It was like a screen where images and moving shadows of the family were projected. It was a projection space of the human being beyond his body.

It took twenty-one years since the construction of the house for the family was willing to reestablish ties with the outside world. The first to leave the house was the oldest daughter, followed by the young daughter who had developed certain aesthetic sensibility that reflected his interest in Kandinsky and later as director of a museum. The widow did not leave the house, because as musicologist enjoying his hobby in the echo of the bare walls. A few years later, he returned the eldest daughter, had a steady job and had rented a small apartment in the city center. Having no partner enjoyed his loneliness to get tired of it, so he decided to return to his former home, the U-House in which his mother still lived.

The elderly widow, upon hearing the news was beside himself glee, as though she lived alone and would receive multiple visits a week, she missed the warmth of home that gave them her daughters years ago.

Among the purposes that was the eldest daughter, the idea of modifying the house was growing hole in his head - the house was designed to overcome somehow lost his father to further unify the family and make it more bearable the life of his mother but that goal was already served.

The daughters noticed a chance to mother, had lost a couple of his garments, even repeating questions in very short time intervals. At first it did not bother them too much, an oversight anyone can have, but gradually became more frequent and decided to see a specialist. She was diagnosed with Alzheimers, was at a very early stage of the disease, but there was no solution, his mother had fallen prey to this disease which is just get used to it and learn to live with it.

Now it was necessary to modify the house, but not to the taste of the daughters or family together, but completely adapt to the needs of his mother. The Alzheimer's is a complex disease that increases your symptoms progressively and no solution therefore was essential information to the fullest and be prepared, the idea was to make life easier and comfortable for her elderly mother lives and not leave her alone at no time since gradually become 100% dependent person.
